December 2011 Newsletter
This has been a banner year for HR in Maine! The SHRM Maine State Council (MESHRM) has sponsored four webinars and several scholarships for Maine HR professionals. Our newsletter has been well received and it is a great vehicle to remind people about what SHRM, MESHRM and the local chapters are doing. MESHRM is a proponent of HRCI certification and we have definitely increased the number of PHR/SHPR/GPRH's in the state.
On April 6, 2011 MESHRM hosted HR Professionals Day in Augusta, which included sessions with representatives from all three branches of government from Senate majority and minority leaders to the administrative head of the Maine Judicial Branch to the Deputy Chief of Staff in the Governor's Office to House and Senate members and lobbyists.
On September 16, 2011 the Maine Development Foundation honored MESHRM with the Champion of Employee Education and Opportunity award for 2011. MESHRM partnered with the Maine Development Foundation to promote the Maine Employers Initiative program to employers in Maine as part of their Workforce Readiness Leadership Area. There are 120 employers in Maine who are now branded through the MEI program for their commitment to take "One More Step" toward employee education and for offering formal educational opportunities to their employees.
On October 12, 2011 Portland-based Consigli Construction Co., Inc. was ranked #1 "Best Places to Work in Maine" in the large company category and Burgess Advertising & Marketing, took the same honor in the small/medium category Best Places to Work.

MARKETING TO MAINE'S HR COMMUNITY
Interested in marketing your services to Maine's Human Resource Community? There are many annual projects the council oversees to enhance the HR profession in Maine. Support of these projects are a great way for an organization to get in front of employers and HR decision makers from across the state. State Council projects include: Educational Webinars, Best Places to Work In Maine Annual Awards Banquet, Council's Quarterly E-newsletter, Annual Leadership Day at the Maine HR Convention, and Bi-annual HR Profession's Day at the State House.
