DHC: Attracting and Retaining Boomers--Why Maine Employers Should Care

Date: March 27, 2012, 9:00am – 12:00pm
Organizer: Diversity Hiring Coalition
Location: TD Bank (Call Center)
Event Type: Meeting

Program Summary:
The current “longevity revolution” has many people enjoying 30 more years of life than the previous generation.  This is good news for employers who are anticipating the severe labor shortage forecast for the future.  While this projection may be hard to believe given the sluggish economy of the past few years, it will be the wise human resource professional that stays ahead of the curve and plans appropriately for labor needs.  Someone turns 50 in the U.S. every 7 seconds and economists believe older Americans are key to averting this expected crisis in the labor market.  Employers and human resource professionals need to understand and address the factors that will keep this significant demographic engaged in the workforce and retained in the talent pool. In this presentation, the Diversity Coalition participants will learn the key issues and motivators of the significant second half of life population. Understanding the current research on what motivates and engages them will inform training and retention strategies and create a win/win result for years to come.
